Hunting and FishingHunting Horicon Marsh Area The 32,000 acre Horicon Marsh is divided into the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge (administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area (administered by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource). The two areas have different hunting regulations. You are responsible for knowing and abiding by these regulations. Go to www.fws.gov/hunting All federal and state hunting regulations are in effect. You must comply with annual hunting regulations. Regulation pamphlets are available at the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and at the Horicon Service Center (DNR). Go to www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/caer/cs/licenses.htm for Wisconsin's DNR hunting information. In general, bow and gun hunting for deer is allowed on both the State and Federal portions of the marsh as well as small game hunting for specific species. Waterfowl hunting IS allowed ONLY on the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area. Some parts of the state wildlife area are closed to all hunting, camping and horses. Some areas allow restricted hunting. Some areas of Horicon National Wildlife Refuge are closed to all hunting, including the Bud Cook Hiking Area and areas surrounding the Visitor Center and the Highway 49 Viewing area. Some areas of the Refuge allow hunting on a restricted basis. Some activities are typically prohibited, such as shining, scouting, water foul hunting, boating, construction and use of permanent blinds, blocking access to gates, ATV's, horses, bating and others.
